Pre-register sender id's to send to Vodacom South Africa

SMSwarehouse Inc. announced a new service which will become available to clients from 1 June 2011. This service will allow customers to pre-register alpha sender id's with Vodacom in order for clients to use their name as sender id when delivering to Vodacom handsets in South Africa.
Category: General

On 1 June 2011 SMSwarehouse Inc. will be able to pre-register clients' sender id's with one of the local service providers in order to ensure delivery of Vodacom messages to mobile handsets used by Vodacom Customers.

When a SMS is sent to a mobile handset, the handset displays sender details in order for the handset owner to know who the text messag is from. This 11 digit sender id could consist of alphabetical characters, numbers or a combination called alphanumerical sender id. The length of the sender id might vary based on the originating network - for example places like India only allow 8 digits whereas South Africa still allow 11 digits as sender id.

It is quite important for Corporate users to identify themselves especially when communicating internally with staff regarding meetings, staff matters etc. Unfortunately, over the years unsolicited bulk messaging created a problem and handset owners started to complain to their service providers about receiving unsolicited messages.

One of the ways the Networks now control unsolicited messages, is to filter out alpha sender id's. Following such filters in general originators may not start with 0, 00 or the local country code. For example: on most routes working to Vodacom in South Africa users that send SMS have to use a random number as sender id: 123456789 in order for the messages to deliver.

The only way that one nowadays can use dynamic or alpha sender id is to pre-register or whitelist such sender id's with the network operators and sign an accompanying anti-spam agreement. That way Corporate South Africa knows their messages will deliver and not be seen as unsolicited messages and filtered out.

SMSwarehouse Incorporated reached agreement with one of the local service providers to offer pre-registration of sender id's as part of the SMSwarehouse Inc. service from 1 June 2011.

If you are a local or International client requiring dynamic sender id please contact us so that we could pre-register your sender id.
