What is Concatenated SMS?
Concatenated SMS is simply a feature allowing sending and receiving of text messages (SMS) longer than the usual 128 or 160 character limit. Long messages can be composed as one, and are automatically split up into smaller messages to send over the network. Maximum lengths vary, from about 300 characters to over 1,000, depending on the phone. (Nokia SMART phones allow for 1,000 characters)
Please note that concatenated messages are handset dependent.
How does Concatenated SMS work on the SMS warehouse web interface?
Concatenated messages are supported in when normal TEXT and UCS (unicode) is used. It allows users to send more than 160 characters (in the case of English text) or more than 70 characters (in the case of Unicode or non-latin characters) in a single SMS depending on the handset.
Note: In a normal TEXT message length of 160 chars will be treated as 1 sms (1 credit). 70 characters in the case of UCS or unicode is charged as 1 credit. But in concatenated sms, TEXT will be
160-26 = 134 chars length (1 credit) and UCS will be 70-3 = 67 chars
length of 1 message(1 credit) because of the use of concatenated binary headers.
