Yesterday one of my potential clients enquired about expanding their existing web site to include SMS services.

As standard operating procedure require, I reverted and asked him what exactly he wanted to this web site to do. Just send text messages or does he want to get involved in the content business - i.e. ringtones, logos etc.

We ended up going around in circles to my frustration as I discovered that this client did not know what he wants.

I thought it is a good topic for my blog today as this is not the first time that this happens.

I ended up explaining to him that his request is similar to him saying "I want to buy a car" and when one ask him which model, make, must it be used or new he cannot tell me.

At SMS warehouse we deal a lot with customized solutions. The services we provide are not all "off-the-shelf" or "out-of-the-box". So customers are expected to do a bit of research on their own to establish what is in the market before they approach us.

If a company or individual are about to set up new business, surely that company and or individual will do homework to establish what it is all about before they set out buying products.

This site contains a lot of information and as far as possible, we try and educate our clients in a way where we do not use all the technical jargon required. We also provide free services where clients could sign up for test accounts and try out the service which we have.

I am not sure what more we are supposed to do - maybe there are some people out there that could tell us.

All it takes is for users to read what is available, and they will find the answers.

We are currently working on a FAQ system so that it answers all questions asked by users.

Other than that please read up on a topic before you enquire as it makes both our lives easier when a customer knows what they want before enquiring.
